Mercy for us this Monday

Mercy, Repentance and Faith:

Mercy: the with holding of the punishment or judgment sin deserves

Repentance: a turning away from sin, disobedience, or rebellion; and a turning back to God.

Faith: reliance, loyalty, or complete trust in God

God keeps showing me how intertwined these three fundamental subjects truly are.

That mercy, His divine favor and compassion, comes after I repent and turn away from sin back to God and put my loyalty, complete trust, and faith in Him.

I have learned after I repent and ask Him to teach me how to turn from sin, mercy I receive. Asking His Holy Spirit to guide me and teach me, cleanse my heart of anything not from Him, my faith grows.

Repentance was always a hard thing for me to grasp, Jesus paid it all right?

The more I grow, I am realizing that is absolutely what He did, and He did it so I don’t have to live with sin. Being open and vulnerable with Him, choosing to repent and turn, it’s my choice to drop sin, but it’s by His strength that I am able.

When I ask He teaches me, but I have to listen to His Holy Spirit and choose to be teachable, choose to leave sin behind, choose His ways, and choose to obey them.

After I become vulnerable and true, asking for a change, asking to be a student of His eternal academy, then my heart is in a place for learning and listening, for change and growth.

I used to believe repentance meant to say “I’m sorry” and then keep on my way.

Now I know repentance is deeply linked to my faith, knowing and believing His ways are better than my own, even if I don’t understand why at the time. Having faith that I can trust and rely on Him and He will always come through.

In the Old Testament it tells us, Joshua and the tribes had taken the Promised Land and settled, Israel was guaranteed this would happen by God Himself. It took 40 years, due to their disobedience, but God was faithful and still made a way.

Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything He has spoken came true’ Joshua 21:45

Joshua instructs the tribes:

But be careful to obey all the commands and the instructions that Moses gave to you. Love the Lord your God, walk in all His ways, obey His commands, hold firmly to Him, and serve Him with all you heart and soul’ Joshua 22:5

These instructions ooze faith, loyalty to Him above all else, and I believe they are for us today just as much as they were for Joshua’s tribes.

When I fall short and repent, He gives me His mercy. You see, we aren’t supposed to repent and continue in the same path we are on, the same sins we’ve struggled with, the same prideful desires of our hearts. If we do, our lives become a broken record with the same struggles and the same pain.

For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.’ 2 Corinthians 7:10

Jesus died for us, so we can walk away from sin and out of its bondage, into a life full of victory and freedom. To walk with His Holy Spirit to guide, teach, comfort, heal, and use us for His Glory. To reach and love His people, and walk in the calling He has for us.

This life of abundance comes only through His mercy, with my strength alone I will fail time and time again. With true repentance and His mercy, my faith grows. He is teaching me moment by moment how to arise into the Godly faithful daughter He created me to be.

It takes time and obedience on my part, time with Him, listening to Him and learning His ways, His character, and allowing Him to have complete control to change what He knows needs rearranged and remove what needs thrown away with tomorrows trash.

With Him in charge of my heart, life, words, and actions, I can rest in this:

‘He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.’ Psalm 103:3-4

Thank you Lord for your instruction to repent, your mercy and blessings, and true faith and dependence on You for all this life throws our way!
