The live broadcast, is it what you thought?

What are you worshiping? Or who do you worship?

It can’t be both, not whole-heartedly anyways. By default when we worship a thing(s), or person(s) its like a budget, if you have just one dollar you can’t give it away twice, you’d have to split it.

When you worship God only, nothing and no one  else, with your entire heart, soul, and being you become full.

By full, I mean of peace, joy, happiness, blessings, abundance, love, faith, and truth.  You see, if you are truly worshiping the one and only God, these amazing gifts are a byproduct.

‘Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.’

Psalms 34:8

This kind of worship is not just for two hours on Sunday morning. When we worship something it consumes our minds, we think about it, we want it and we strive to have more and more of it everyday.

“You should live your life everyday for Him, if someone followed you around, they should never question if God is good.” As my pastor said these words to me a few years ago, it really made me think. I love God, I believe He is good, I want to serve Him with all that I have, but am I living this out hour by hour, day by day? Some days no, to be honest and transparent, but some days yes.

My practical revelation about this came to me, as I was about to fall asleep one night….

Think of watching a movie on TV (like in the olden days before DVR and Netflix).

When you flip to the channel you hear,  “Stay tuned for ‘The Jungle Book’ presented by ABC”.

We all remember those days right?

What if we really wanted to watch ‘The Jungle Book’ and when it came back from a commercial, ‘Karate Kid’ started? We would be so confused, and probably frustrated because that’s not the movie we were expecting. I bet we would flip the channels looking for ‘The Jungle Book’ and then give up once we couldn’t find it.

That’s us folks, we are the station, broadcasting Jesus to the earth, presenting Him to all those we interact with everyday: family, friends, coworkers.

As Christians we must broadcast what we advertise, always.

We say we love Jesus, we go to church every Sunday, heck we even attend Bible study once in awhile, but what do we do everyday. What do we do when temptation comes lurking, fear knocks on the door, or anger seems easy? Do we broadcast what we advertised? Do we show the love 1 Corinthians 13 commands, even when it’s hard and the last thing we want to do?

As a clarification by broadcast, I don’t mean stand on a street corner yelling, or bullying people into your beliefs. I simply mean say what you mean, and do what you say. Be consistent Christians, and we won’t have to shout about Jesus, we’ll be showing Him to the world, not telling about Him.

And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.  Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect. Romans 12:1-2

When people see us live opposite from what we proclaim, what we ‘broadcast’ on our channel in life, they start flipping trying to find what they were looking for.

As a reminder for myself as well as everyone reading, God is good all of the time, in every circumstance.  Whether you see His plan or not, regardless of if He asks you to put down something you love, or pick up something you’d prefer not to. He IS good, and by obeying Him in the everyday and the difficult, we are living a life of worship. This life comes from a heart madly in love with our Father, not a heart trying to be and do all the ‘things’ we should as Christians.

This is when we broadcast what we advertise! This is when the world sees Jesus in us, this is when they will know us by our love, for Him and each other!

This is the person I want to be, everyday, in every circumstance!

Lord teach us to lay everything at your feet, and only pick up what you call us to. Teach us today and everyday how to worship you, to live a life of constant adoration of who You are and what You did for us. Lord help us to live out what we broadcast, to be constant in our lives of worship and love. In every circumstance, high or low, teach us to respond always with ‘God is good’.
